My sports craze: Soccer
For the last 3 years I've been following the soccer leagues of Europe, with special attention to English and the Spanish league. Some of my favorite sports personalities are from these leagues. Since I've been religiously following the leagues of these two countries, Manchester United and Real Madrid are my favourite clubs.     *

I've been wondering...
Why don't we Indian's have a league that's on par with the English League & the Primera Liga (the Spanish league, as it is commonly called). Of course, we do have a lot of international players playing for different clubs in India, but none as classy as a David Beckham, or a Ruud van Nistelrooy or a Luis Figo or a Raúl. In the times that I've watched the different matches that are played in India between different clubs, I've never seen the kind of Free-kick that is associated with David Beckham or Roberto Carlos' left footed free kick. Its a rare occasion that I've noticed a spectacular save by an Indian club goalkeeper, a-la Fabien Barthez.

We do have some great players, in Baichung Bhutia and I.M Vijayan who've carved their names in these leagues. But that's about it. What we really lack is the kind of stadia where there are the best facilities and great coaches, to bring the club football in India to the European standards.     *

Other clubs, I admire...
I've been following these clubs since I've started following the respective leagues. But these are not the only great clubs out there. There are others that have matched these two head to head and done pretty well. In England, there's Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea. In Spain, there's Barcelona, Celta Vigo.     *

On a concluding note...
Here's the table that shows the topscorers in the English Premier League...

Top Scorers Team Prem WC FA Euro Total
Ruud van Nistelrooy Man Utd 18 0 2 6 26
Thierry Henry Arsenal 18 0 1 6 25
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Chelsea 18 3 2 0 23
Michael Owen Liverpool 12 0 2 6 20
Eidur Gudjohnsen Chelsea 11 3 0 3 17
Alan Shearer Newcastle 13 2 2 0 17
Michael Ricketts Bolton 12 2 1 0 15
Juan Pablo Angel Aston Villa 10 0 0 4 14
Craig Bellamy Newcastle 9 4 0 1 14
Les Ferdinand Tottenham 8 5 1 0 14
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Man Utd 10 0 1 2 13
James Beattie Southampton 10 2 0 0 12

Key:
Prem Barclaycard Premiership Goals
WC   Worthington's Cup Goals
FA   FA Cup Goals
EURO   Goals in European Competitions

What happened to me...
Hell it's been a month (well, almost) since I last updated my blog. Since that day I've been held up with so many different jobs that I've forgotten (well nearly, at least) that I did have a Blog. So, here it is, again. During this period of absence I've been busy helping my folks re-paint the house and have been taking care of my granny who's silently suffering from schizophrenia. God, I just hope that I don't become a schizophrenic and end up as my granny does. Sometimes I really do feel awful that she's got to go through all this. She doesn't remember a single person just a minute after they've been introduced to her. :(     *

Yahoo! Messenger update
Update on the Yahoo! Messenger issue. I've come to understand after talking to colleagues and co-workers across different regions, where this situation has happened only in a proxy environment (i.e. environments where a Proxy server has been installed). It so happens, that on some people's Yahoo, the Proxy isn't set (meaning it's set to work without the Proxy) whereas on other systems (within the same networked environment, is set to connect through the Proxy). Now, I've also noticed a strange behavior, sometimes when a connection is pretty good, there have been instances where Yahoo messenger keeps getting disconnected and then reconnect again. This especially happens, when the user has set his/her Yahoo messenger to use the Proxy settings. But on a non-proxy environment, this occurrence has been rare, though once in a while. Will keep you guys posted.     *

That's about it for now more for later. Got to rush to finish errands.

Have a great weekend…

Research on Y! front...
Greetings. Well, a little more studying about the funny occurances of Y!5 and a further enquiry on the effected people, lead me to believe that this happens only between contacts of known friends.

Hold on a bit there...let me explain. Suppose X has Y as a contact and Z has X as a contact, I've seen it occur only in a scenario that the environment, they work are in a Proxy environment and it occurs when X tries to contact Y, but instead the IM popups on Z's machine. I really don't know how many people would be effected by this, and whether its only in a Proxy environment that this phenomenon occurs, but even in such a situation, having an IM window open up on a totally different system (read, the thought scares me, if it opened up on my boss') than originally intended for is a matter of privacy. :) So, how many of you guys out there have had this experience. Write in and let me know.     *

Ummm...I was supposed to finish the bookmarks stuff and have it ready by weekend, but I guess it might have to wait a wee bit longer. I heard news that my mom's friend just lost her ailing mom. So, I'll be leaving with my family tomorrow to their place, and I really dunno when I would get back. But I must tell you that the cataloging (jee, I just thought this would be the right spelling and it is...) of the bookmarks is coming on fine though.     *

An article that's a must read
Here's an article that I read once early Jan and still continue to read after his updates and each time it makes a much better reading (read hillarious).     *

Well, that's it for today, unless, I decide to write more later tonite. So, have a great weekend you guys and have fun & be good (always wanted to say that on a web page :D)

Mad...
Now that Mad has provoked me and wants me to start writing, I better get started before I get the "you fool, I told you so" messages that is so often connected to Mad. He's branded me unsuccessful at writing. Yes, maybe I am, but writing has not been one of my hobbies. But now, that I've got this blog running, I'll make it a point to write atleast during the weekends, if not during the regular days.

So, I've been writing and collecting all the different URLs that has been sent to me by Mad and all of my friends. Few of them, I've stored in a Text file (rather bad thing to do), but the most of them are links under the Favorites (IE6). I spent quite a few minutes before I found the right utility to convert Favorites to bookmarks. I've been spending quite a few while compiling the bookmark list. I would take time, as, late nights are the best time for me to work on these (I cannot possibly take this to office, duh!). But its building and will soon be ready.

What are these bookmarks you might ask? Hmmm... let me see, these links ranges right from the basics of Web page design to cool photoshop tutorial sites to hacker portals to classic wallpaper sites to writing to .... well, you get the picture don't you anyway.

Before I close for the day (night rather, its 21:30 out here in this part of the world) let me tell you about some funny happenings at work.

A few years ago, people who were using Yahoo! Messenger or any other IMs were caught and were looked upon harshly. Now, everyone I know is using IMs as part of "official" way to communicate between regions (given that we have 3 regions where we have our company present). It is to "save cost on telephone calls" when most of the phone calls, have been in the lines of "hey dude (dudess), did you check your mail, I sent an urgent mail to you yesterday evening, did you reply to it?"

Personally, I've not used any of these messengers (Y!, MSN, AIM or ICQ) at anytime or other for the past 6 months, but I do have an account on each of these. I use this wonderful UIM (Universal Internet Messaging) utility called Trillian which I use. This UIM allows me to maintain all the 4 above mentioned IMs together in one single interface.

Now, that using IMs have been more or less "legalised" at our work, people have started to find that Yahoo! has started to behave rather annoyingly. Here's the funny (or is it...) part. The last few days, my colleagues have found out that using Y! (after upgrading the IM to ver. 5.0, yahoo's latest version of its IM) that messages sent to friends IMs are ending up at different locations than they hoped for. Our network setup uses a Proxy to connect to the 'net. Maybe (maybe) this is due to the Proxy behaving the way, but I've not done more research on this, as of now. But I will.

Here's what happens. X, Y & Z are colleagues of mine @ work. All the 3 uses Y!IM 5.0. X has got Y as a Friend in his contact list and Z has got X as a Friend in his list. Now, when X sees that Y is on and double clicks on his name to chat with him, the IM window doesn't open on Y's screen, but instead opens on Z's screen and all the messages that X has sent to Y ends up on Z's screen. Now, it so happens that all the 3 are good friends and they have no differences. So, I'm planning to do a further investigation on this and find out what's really happening. To add to this, I've heard that people at our other regions too have faced this problem. Hmmm... something worth investigating.

Anyway, that's it for now, catch you during the weekend...

Feel free to contact me with feedback and/or comments.

Have fun......Adios

Now that its up and running
I've got the blog setup to nearly the style I want, I'm going to spend the weekend, putting up some interesting links from my long list of bookmarks. This long list has come from quite a few friends of mine. Thanks Mad, and all of you guys who's helped me compile this list.

This list of my bookmarks has been growing from the time I've started to use the net for research and my regular work. So, there...

More this weekend...

My First Weblog
Hmmm, Now that I've got a site where I can enter my logs. Well, this is my first, so I'll need to get a hang of this whole thing first before I start writing "real" logs. Hopefully soon you'll get to see my logs. There you go.
